Vera Jingyi Xia
夏靖宜 b.1999
is a photographer, filmmaker, interpreter、and a curator based in Hunan and Beijing, China. She was born in Yiyang, Hunan Province, in 1999. She graduated in 2021 from the Photography Department at Bard College in New York. A film enthusiast, she worked as a 35mm film projectionist at the college.
After graduation, she pursued further education in cinematography at the Beijing Film Academy. Since then, she has been involved in the shooting and production of numerous short films, taking on roles such as Director of Photography, Production Designer, and still photographer. She has also made documentaries.
Her photographic work has been exhibited in various photography and art shows in cities including New York, Berlin, Tokyo, Beijing, Changsha, and Chongqing. In 2020, her matchbox collection titled "THE NOCTURNAL" was published by HAKUCHI. This series received acclaim, winning the "Kunpeng Award" from the China Young Photographers Promotion Program at the 2021 Pingyao International Photography Festival. Additionally, it was shortlisted for the "Chiri Photography Festival," where it earned a Special Recommendation Award from judge Lin Zhipeng, also known as "No. 223." Furthermore, her documentary "Where You Look 2023" was shortlisted for the Best Documentary Award at the 2024 ARFF Amsterdam International Film Festival.
